Fashion companies have adopted the words sustainable yet use fabrics made from petro-chemicals. Desipte their claims, materials like polyester are NOT sutainable and are terrible for our enviroment and health.
According to a 2019 UN report, global clothing production doubled between 2000 and 2014, and the industry is “responsible for 20 percent of total water waste on a global level”.
The reason that we started Opok was because we learned that these synthetic materials can be detrimental to our health, let alone devastate our environment. We have heard feedback that people are unaware that polyester, the most widely used material in clothing, can be toxic given that it’s in everything. So we did our research and here are our findings.
